Price may increase with trainingBlue Man arrived at PonyPros April 25, 2010. He is riding walk/trot/canter, jumping small courses, and trail riding. Blue is ridden 4-5 days a week by 12 year old intermediates and does ground work lessons with our youngest students. Blue is great indoors and out, very quiet and fun on the trail, loves going to new places for events, and does not get tired easily.
In addition to learning to be a great riding pony, Blue is doing Parelli and clicker training and is learning a lot of fun tricks, including waving a flag, picking things up, smiling, laying down, and sitting up. Blue has a great play drive both on the ground and under saddle. He really gets after the big green ball, pawing it and biting at it :) He'll push it all over even while being ridden!
Blue is very charming and likes to clown around. He started out medium spirit RBE but is now medium spirit LBE. Blue has great lateral movement and upright head carriage, which would make him great for 3-day eventing. He also has a brave, beautiful jump with nice square knees. Blue gets along well with other horses and is one of the more passive ponies on our herd. He likes to play with the other geldings but is a "make friends not war" kind of guy. Blue Man has nice big feet, good conformation, and is an eye-catching color. He's healthy and sound.
PonyPros started Blue under saddle May 19th. Blue Man was very gentlemanly for his first ride. He was backed for the first time by one of our 12 year old students. Blue is large enough to be tuned up by an adult, but we like to share the colt starting experience with our students whenever possible. This was a great opportunity for Chloe, as Blue was such a good boy. Blue is now riding with all the kids and doing an awesome job. He's going walk/trot/canter, is steady and very quiet, and is good bareback and with a saddle. He's consistent and fun.
May 22, PonyPros took Blue and 8 other ponies to the Parelli tour stop in Redmond, Oregon. Blue had only been with us a month and the student working with him had also only been with us a month. Blue was a superstar and was amazing the whole day. He loaded great into the trailer in freezing cold weather at 5am (all the ponies were shivering), he was calm and patient getting all dressed up in glitter and having his tail french braided, and he shared a stall with another pony with zero hassle. Blue was kind and consistent in the warm up ring and did all his best tricks in the big arena, including jumping the barrels, standing on the pedestal (first time on a metal one!), and sidepassing the blocks. Plus Blue looked like a rockstar with his pony mohawk mane!
July 4th PonyPros took Blue Man to the Bend Pet Parade. It was HUGE event with people packed in 12 feet deep on every street. There was a skateboarder being pulled by a Pit Bull at mach 10, a Dachshund in a harness floating through the air below balloons, a man playing military calls on a bugle while reeling about on a horse and waving an umbrella, a guy on a recumbent bicycle with dogs on either side wearing harnesses to propel the bike, not to mention the usual people on stilts, mini ponies pulling carts, wild children, barking dogs, flags, banners, weird hats, etc. Blue Man did great, even when a tiny girl ran out from the seating area unbidden, hustled around his front to his off side and stroked his shoulder!
Blue is being played with 3-6 days a week. He is doing ground skills lessons with our youngest students because he is kind and responsive, being ridden by our trainers, and being ridden by our older students, beginners and more advanced alike. He's a pony who does well with everyone, not minding being a "family pony." Blue is a very good boy, doing great even in crowded arenas on windy days. He's a nice size for kids up to the age of 13. He is a very easy going guy and will likely do well with even the youngest riders.
Blue Man was originally rescued by Mustangs and Mohr and a Parelli friend named Stacey donated the money for his gelding and other care to make it possible for us to take on his training. It's amazing that such a gorgeous, well-bred pony could wind up in a rescue situation to this degree. Remarkably, though he was starved and had no training, Blue Man had not been abused and his feet were in excellent condition, which has made it possible for him to progress very quickly in becoming a riding pony.
