SW Sarendipity (Sarah)

2003, 15h Shagya Arabian mare, $4500

(Lily Creek Stetson ASAV-SH 127 x Sabiyana 466090 ARA)

Sarah is always smiling with her eyes. She is as kind as she looks. She has had all Parelli natural horsemanship training since birth and received a gentle, quality start under saddle. She has been ridden 3+ days a week for the last couple months, mostly by a confident but inexperienced 12 year old girl.

Sarah is a medium spirit left brain introvert with very smooth gaits. Her temperament is likely a 3 out of 10. She is the perfect horse for most riders. She is calm, quiet, and very sweet. She loves to rest her head on your belly. Sarah is great at all the Parelli games and will jump the barrels, YoYo through a gate, go sideways over a pole, push a ball, and play Stick With Me at a trot or canter.

Sarah is great on the trail and in the arena. Sarah has been to 2 shows and was well-mannered and enjoyed herself. She is hauled out on 2-4 hour trail rides 1-2 times per week. Sarah has no trouble with any of the obstacles on our trail course and has been safe with beginner riders on the trail. She crosses bridges and has crossed the one water crossing in our area without trouble. Sarah even competed in a 25 mile endurance race in a halter with a 12 year old rider May 7th.

Sarah bathes, loads, and hauls well, and loves to be groomed. She respects your space and is not heavy on the hand or leg. Through she is still green with her leads, you can canter her bareback and jump her, or do quality lateral movements like shoulder-in and halfpass. At the same time, Sarah is great for teaching beginners to ride on the longe. Her one naughty habit is that she will toss her head when she's in a mood. Generally, though, Sarah, is smooth, rhythmic, and consistent. Nothing much bothers her. She is a great teacher and a contented, peaceful mare.

Sarah is only for sale because she is part of a breeding program that her owner is having to discontinue to do the economy. A saying among breeders is that "You should only breed what you would clone" and this mare meets that criteria.

*Update, May 23, 2010: Sarah was one of the 9 horses/ponies we took to the Parelli tour stop in Redmond. She was perfect loading in the trailer in 22 degree weather at 5am, perfect warming up, perfect standing around all morning, and great in the warm-up arena. Because she is so quiet, we felt confident allowing one of our 10-year-old students to work with her, though she student had only been with us for one month. Sarah was awesome right up to the point when the audience starting laughing and clapping during our spotlight! Then, she became somewhat right brain extrovert. The combined noises of 2,000 people were the first thing we've ever found that Sarah is afraid of! Still, Sarah was able to continue to be in the arena for the 1/2 hour performance and was better than many of the horses who come in for spotlights earlier that day. Lucky for Sarah, we have a keyboard that plays clapping and laughing sounds, and we will be plugging it into our PA system to practice :)

Sarah is full Shagya Arabian on her sire’s side and registered Arabian on her Dam’s side. So, she’s registered with the aSAV as an appendix Shagya. Here is information on the Shagya breed.

*Our program is bitless but Sarah has been introduced to a snaffle. We ride in jumping hackamores or halters.
