We Teach
Horse Psychology and Communication
"As to methods there may be a million and then some, but principles are few. The man who grasps principles can successfully select his own methods. The man who tries methods, ignoring principles, is sure to have trouble."
-Emerson

- Where to look for information when you have questions about your horse's thoughts, feelings, and motivations.
- Knowing what your body is communicating to your horse.
- How to help a horse get into a learning frame of mind.
- How share goals with your horse so that you function as a team.
- Understanding the learning cycle of the horse.
- Communicating with your horse from up close and far away.
How do you Teach Students About Horses' Non-Verbal Communication?
Learning how to communicate with your horse is the same as learning any other language. You need to be immersed in the language and to have a caring teacher who will gently correct you when you make a mistake. PonyPros teaches with guided discovery, meaning that we help students discover the skills they need by setting up situations where students naturally combine skills they already have in order to develop a solution to a new problem. We make finding an effective answer easy and finding an ineffective solution unlikely. With PonyPros horse psychology and communication coaching, we spend a lot of time with our horses on the ground so that we can easily see their facial expressions and body language. Having ponies with very different personalities on hand makes it so our students are prepared to work with many different types of horses. As our students become more advanced, we teach them to feel changes in the horse's body while they are riding and to look for the occasional visual cue. The PonyPros program is methodical, but exploratory, so that students become independent, rather than reliant on the trainer. Our hour long lessons are hands-on, but we also provide you with homestudy materials so you can learn any time you want.
Goal:
To give students the skills they need to become successful working with horses without a trainer.
